I've done a fair amount of travel for a thirty-something, but it has been awhile since I've ventured down an unfamiliar path. I am so excited by this particular journey that I am ready to begin blogging about it before we take flight on May 26th.
Tibet has been calling my heart ever since I visited the Indian Himalayas in the mid-90's. I don't have a rationale explanation for it, but just know that I need to go. Travel has always brought me adventure, insight into the human condition, and appreciation for the beauty and diversity of the planet. I am certain Tibet will challenge me to think about it's political situation, the cost/benefits of development and the perseverance of a unique culture.
I committed myself to this trip in December and then began the (surprisingly) challenging processes of convincing others to join me. I succeed in roping in two loyal companions.
Bummy: You wouldn't think I'd have to work too hard to convince my husband to take a trip to Everest Base Camp, but it took some convincing. I love the man, but he doesn't have quite the passion for traveling that I do. This will be his first real adventure and hopefully not his last.
Rainbow: Who wouldn't want an ostrich rider as part of an expedition? Rainbow, unlike my husband, is a seasoned traveler. Our first major adventure in Asia was a three week trip through the Indonesian islands of Java and Bali. We were so young and naive, but open to the adventures open to friendly, open-minded backpackers.
Wish we were leaving tomorrow!

I can't believe we're leaving next week..trip of a lifetime!
Vivek and JEnny:
I really enjoyed the blow by blow account- how thoughtful of you to keep a journal like this- I got all the benefit of having been to Beijing and Tibet, without having to deal with the discomforts of the smells, the taste[for the most part], or the altitude!!
I enjoyed that bit about your encounter with the 2 young chinese women, especially that part where they thought Vivek was so handsome!! It does a mother's heart mighty proud- I know how much you were looking forward to this Jenny, and I cannot be happier that you are all having such a good time.
Glad that Rainbow is such a good traveler- and such a good companion!!
I hope we will continue hearing from you= I cannot wait for your next post
